Rookie Report / Rookie Update Week 3
« Last post by Justis22 on October 13, 2018, 04:37:00 pm »
Chris Cooley the 3rd round pick out of Utah St has played like a 1st rounder. He has put up big numbers. He has 17 catches for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns. Not bad for a guy the Redskins found in the 3rd round.

The 5th overall pick is looking like a beast out their. He looks like he is on pace to have  a great rookie season and maybe win Defensive Player of the Year. Sean Taylor has 21 tackles on the season and it looks like he will get a ton more.

The Redskins at 2-1 on the season and right behind the Eagles at a game back. Tonight things looked good for the Redskins. On Monday Night Football they brought their A game. They did everything they need to win this game and found ways to get things down. Mark Brunell looked good out there controlling the offense. He was on point tonight. Only missing 3 passes the whole game. It's one thing to miss three a quarter or a drive but to do it the whole game is a different thing. He was 20-23 for 293 yards. He threw no picks which should how ggood he was doing tonight. He had himself 3 touchdown passes. And he was able to break off a 31 yard touchdown run. At this point of his career he is trying to not get hurt for a season and here he is breaking off long runs for a touchdown. Who says he doesn't still got it. Blhe wasn't the only one break runs. The actual back did hi job as well. Portis rushed the ball for 87 yards on 11 carries and caught 2 passes from the backfield for 18 yards. He wasn't able to get in the endzone but he did enough to help the team out and the only thing he cares about is winning. He is a young guy who doesn't need the ball all the time he is more happy with the team winning and do whatever he can to help. And that's what he did he helped everyone else out. Rookie Chris Cooley had another big game with 6 receptions for a total of 72 yards and was able to find the end zone twice. Gardner also had a good game with 5 catches for 77 yards and he too was able to get into the endzone. Coles wasn't able to get in the endzone but he still put up good numbers with 5 receptions for 87 yards. All the receivers we're stepping up their game today. And made things a lot easier for Brunell who just had to find a guy and that was it. He had no real problems finding his guys. The Cowboys defense was slacking a bit and that was enough for the Redskins to take advantage of. The Redskins line was dominate tonight. The Cowboys we're only able to bring down Brunell once tonight. They barely put any pressure on him and he had all day to throw the ball. He was not rushed to throw one ball. Even 3rd string receiver James Thrash was able to get open on the Cowboys defense. He caught 2 passes for 39 yards. The offense looked great tonight and with them putting up 28 points. It made it a bit easier for their defense. Speaking of the defense as good of a game the offense had the defense not as much. Yes they did hold them to less points and Harris was able to get a pick 6, but they gave up a lot of yards. And the Cowboys did score as many touchdowns as the Redskins defense. So it wasn't like the defense held them to 3 points or something. That game could of went either way. If they didn't cause that turniver we could be taking about how the Cowboys won the game instead of us. Yes they were able to get a safety and that helped as well. But the defense did worry some of us. They gave up 449 total yards that is 72 more yards than what the Redskins put on the Cowboys d. 342 through the air and and Julis Jones alone was able to get 107 on them. It took 3 rushers on our side to just get 134. The defense has questions and they do have soft spots. It's ok now but later on it the season it might come back and bite us. Bowen and Rookie Taylor lead the team with 6 tackles. Sean Taylor has been having himself on heck of a rookie year. He keeps this up he might be defensive rookie of the year. He was a good draft pick and if everyone on the defense played like him heck me might be undefeated. They were able to disrupt Testaverde and get to him 3 times Barrow who got a sack and was able to get himself 5 tackles. Which is not bad for a guy on the line. Daniels and Haley we're also able to bring him down. The veteran Shawn Springs was able to have a decent night with 3 tackles of his own. But if they keep having games like this they might not get lucky and come out with a win. They had some lucky bounces go there way. They can't rely on luck the whole year. They will be at the Browns next week and they will be looking for their first win on the year let's hope we can keep them from getting that first win.

Team News / Week 3 at Redskins

One of the best rivalries in the NFL between the Cowboys vs the Redskins. And this was for second place in the division between them. And our boys were in the losing end of that. Going 1-2 on the season it's not looking to great. Being in 3rd place as of right now. Behind the Redskins and Eagles. And we don't have to worry too much about the Giants they have enough things to worry about. The Cowboys put up good numbers on offense and their rookies and young players are playing well. Their quarterback put up good numbers and he looked like a younger verison of himself. Testaverde looked good and he did everything he could do to help his team win. He was 21-27 probably one of his better games of his career maybe. He threw for 342 yards and had 3 touchdowns and just 1 Interecption on the day. He had pretty good protection on the day, yes he was sacked 3 times on the day but that was from just holding the ball to long. The rest of this team stepped up as well. It's surprising how well the Cowboys did in offense. Julius Jones the rookie had another great game. He rushed the ball 11 times for 107 yards and scored a touchdown. He also caught the ball twice for  19 yards and a touchdown. He was scoring from every area on the field. He was going to do whatever he could do to help. But he wasn't the only one to make plays. Their Fullback had a scoring touchdown as well he caught a 7 yard pass. Their 3 main receivers all stepped up and had themselves good games as well. Johnson really brought it today. And he was not going to be stopped today. Keyshawn had himself 4 receptions for 105 yards and was able to get a touchdown. Terry Glenn had 6 catches for 83 yards and was not going to be stopped. He caught everything that was thrown to him he only missed one catch and that was a bad throw. And second year Tight End Jason Witten had 5 receptions for 58 yards. He was trying to get opening all day but they were shutting him down well. But he was still able to get his yards. Even Bryant was able to get some yards. He had 52 yards on only 2 catches. Now the offense had a good day but the defense was struggling for sure. They gave up a total of 427 yards. 293 through the air and 134 yards on the ground. Now it's not like they gave up a huge ton of yards yes it was over 400 yards but the thing is they didn't stop them at all. They caused no turnovers and they really didn't stop them on offense. They we're able to go up and down the field with no problem. Just two punts on the day. Williams and Nguyen lead the d in tackles. Williams lead the team with 7 tackles and Nguyen had 5 tackles. They did as much as they could to help their team out but the Redskins we're able to do whatever they wanted. They put no pressure on their QB and they barely got to him. They we're only able to get one sack on the day. Coakley had 2 tackles and a sack. He did what he could but when no one else is pressuring the QB it makes it hard for anyone to get any plays on them. Darren Woodson had a rough game only getting 3 tackles but unfortunately they lost him half way into the game. So that defense felt his lose and that might be a reason why the team struggled. His lose can not be the reason why the defense struggles they need to figure out their porblem. They will have a bye week next week and let's hope that will give them enough time to get everything right. The offense seems to be going in the right direction let's hope that defense can do the same.

Team News / Week 3 vs Buccaneers
« Last post by Justis22 on October 11, 2018, 06:05:08 pm »
These was a rough game around. On one hand every section of the team scored. Score on defense, offense, and speical teams. The only bad thing is they all scored the same amount of touchdowns, one a piece. The offense couldn't get going and the defense couldn't stop the Bucs. The worse part about it all was Jerry Rice had a good game and went over 100 yards, but he could of had over 200 if it wasn't for all the penalties and reviewed plays. Both of those took a lot of yards from him and one of them took back a touchdown that would of tied the game at the time. Gannon could not get out of the pocket with out throwing a bad pass or getting sacked. As much as we hate to admit it the team is really show their age. Minius Rice and Brown the rest of the offense looks old. Gannon couldn't out run any of the linemen. Couldn't get the ball to his receivers. Gannon went 8-14 for 83 yards and 3 interecptions. He looked like just a mess he was not the Gannon that lead us to a Superbowl and was our leader. He looked more like a guy ready to hang them up. He was so bad in the game that they put in Kerry Collins after half. They needed to do something for the team to give them a jolt. Collins did do better than Gannon in one half. Collins was 11-21 for 235 yards. He was able to get the offense their first touchdown. It came in the 4th quarter but she was still able to help the team score. But he also looked like Kerry Collins and threw 2 picks. I don't know if Collins will be the starter next week or if Gannon will keep his job another week. That is something head coach Norv Turner will have to figure out during the week. But if you thought the pass game was bad the running game was a lot worse. Wheatley couldn't do anything on the Bucs d. He rushed the ball 6 times for only 33 yards. On the other hand though once they were down but a lot they gave up on the run. They tired it once or twice but couldn't get through the line so they abandoned it. But when you can't get past your own line yeah I wouldn't run it much either. The other real good thing about the offense was their receivers. Rice and Brown were able to get their numbers and put up some good ones. Rice had 8 catches for 113 yards. It should of been more but bad calls brought them back and his only score also came back. Brown had 5 receptions for 99 yards. Had himself just as good of a day as Rice. Not quite Rice but better than nothing. It helped once Gannon was out and Collins was in and someone was able to get them the ball. No one else on the team really did anhthing. No one other than Rice and Brown had more than 2 catches and no one got over 40 yards receiving. And the only one who caught a pass only caught one pass. Tight End Jolley had 1 reception for 4 yards and that was the only passing TD. Porter who we thought would shine looked like the opposite of what we thought. He has 2 receptions for 28 yards. And rookie Morant who had his first real action today had 2 catches for 34 yards. That's what we excepted from a rookie but Porter isn't a rookie and he looked worse than the rook. But Porter wasn't the only one who looked bad, the defense was really off today. They didn't seem like their normal selves. They gave up 456 yards total. 315 through the air and the Bucs back run for 141 yards. And that isn't the worst of it. The defense was in the red zone 6 times. 6 times you would think that the Raiders will stop them at least once. No the Bucs went 6/6. They were perfect in the red zone and didn't even seem scared being there. They had the confidence the Raiders needed. They were able to get a pick by Grant who was able to bring it back. But while they turned 1 turnover into 7 points the Bucs turned their turnovers into 20 points. They hurt the defense bad. Gibson looked really good be able to get himself 11 tackles lead both teams in tackles. Look for him to maybe be player of the week on defense. He did as much as he could but if the rest of the team isn't helping he can't do it alone. Harris, Cooper and Hamilton we're almost able to get to Brad Johnson and take him down. Harris was also able to bring in 7 tackles of his own. They we're on the field a lot so they were able to pile up the tackles. The veteran Rod Woodson had a decent game with 4 tackles on the day. The other Woodson, Charles Woodson had only 2 tackles, but they also weren't going his way that often. It was not a good day for them on prime time. Let's hope that this game will not drag on to next week. They get to face the Texans but they will be on the road so let's see if they can at least bring their  A game to Houston so we don't lose two in a row. Being 1-2 is bad enough let's not dig a deeper hole.
