Team News / Week 3 at Colts

This one was a shoot out early in the game. It was a back and forth battle. The Packers were hanging with the high flying passing Colts. It was a great game for the fans early. The Colts would score then the Packers then the Colts and then the Packers again. The defenses could not do anything to stop either offense. But Brett Favre was Brett Favre and being the gunslinger that he his he tried to make a big play to get them ahead and it cost him. Even though he only threw one pick in this game it was a pick that turned the tide in the game. It was a very costly pick. Because after that turnover the Packers could not get themselves back in the game. It's like that turnover just sucked the life out of them and they couldn't fight back. Favre had a decent game overall minus that pick. He was 20-30 for 284 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was having a very good game almost threw for 300 yards. Green had a decent game to. He rushed the ball 9 times for 78 yards and waa able to get a touchdown to. He also grabbed 2 receptions for 31 yards. Davenport also rushed it but he didn't get many yards only 36 yards on 2 carries. They weren't into running the ball today. Once they got behind they were fighting to get back and they could not find their footing and they just stopped trying to run the ball.  Since they were passing the ball a lot today they need guys to make some plays. And due to Ferguson being out for 8 weeks with an injury they need help from his back up Walker and he helped out Driver today. He had himself 6 receptions for 74 yards not a bad day for a guy who was a back up. He is making a name for himself on the team and showed he could play. Driver had a good game as well. Driver caught 5 passes for 84 yards and scored 1 touchdown on the day. Franks was able to grab 3 catches for 34 yards. He started off cold by not getting the ball early but late in the game he was able to get open and make some catches. Even the other back ups made some plays. Chatman made 2 catches for 26 yards and the other Tight End Martin was able to get a touchdown. Even though the touchdown came from his only catch of the day he was still able to score at least. Now the score shows they only lost by 14 points but they had to fight real hard to stop Manning from scoring more. The defense did all they could do but when the offense goes 40% on 3rd down conversion it makes it a little harder cause. The offense wasn't out there long and that defense was getting tired quick. It showed too. They almost gave up 500 yards total. They gave up 482 total yards on the day. 367 of those yards came from the passing game Manning was on fire for the day. But in a surprise they also gave up a total of 115 yards rushing. Which shows how tired they were getting. Cause the Colts don't run the ball often and for our d to give up over 100 yards to them shows they we're getting beat down. But they were able to make some plays on the day. They were able to get 2 sacks on Manning. Hunt and Washington were able to get to him and bring him down. Towards the end of the game I don't know if Manning was getting tired or if the Packers rush got a little better but Al Harris was able to pick off a pass from Manning. Roman and McKenzie were able to lead the team in tackles. Roman lead both teams with a total of 11 tackles. McKenzie didn't get a pick but he was able to have 6 tackles on the day. Their captain Harper had himself 4 tackles. Next week hopefully will be a little easier. They are playing the Giants and depending on what they are going to do whether they play their rookie QB or not, hopefully they can get a nice and easy win from them.

Today was the Eddie George show. He was doing it on the ground and was able to make plays with his hands. George ran the ball 8 times for 90 yards. And he was able to only get 2 catches for 80 yards for not 1 but 2 touchdowns. And he started the game with a 45 yard touchdown pass. And then caught another pass for a touchdown. If you threw it to him he was going to take it to the endzone. He wasn't the only one making nice catches. Drew Bennett had himself 6 receptions for 64 yards. But that's were the great receiving day for them stops even though McNair was 14-24 for 235 yards he didn't have many guys helping him. Other than George and Bennett no one else stepped up. His go to guy Derrick Mason had a horrible game. Getting 2 catches for only 10 yards but he did get a touchdown. The offense didn't have a great game but when your opponent throws 3 picks you don't have to have great numbers. McNair had himself a total of 4 touchdowns. So you not need big numbers as long as you have that touchdown column high you don't have to worry. The defense had themselves a decent game. They gave up a lot of yards but they were able to keep to to only 3 scores. They were able to sack the quarterback 3 times today. In doing that I believe they made Leftwich nervous cause he was throwing the ball all over and not making smart plays. They were able to get 3 interecptions. Williams lead the way with 7 tackles. Tyson, Carter and Haynesworth were all able to get sacks. Dyson was also able to get 5 tackles and an interecption. Calmus and Beckham we're the others to get themselves a pick. Beckham also had 2 tackles to go with his pick. They were able to turn those turnovers into 17 points. They gave up a total of 406 yards and 304 yards passing and 102 through the ground. Now they will have to fix themselves up cause if they give up that many yards again they might not be able to win their next game. They will be facing the league leader in rushing LT and the Chargers.

Greg Jones has carried the ball 4 times for 44 yds.

9th overall pick Reggie Williams had himself a huge game against the Titans. On the season he has 14 receptions for 188 yds and 2 TD. As long as he can keep playing like he did this week he might be a Rookie of the Year award winner.

Ernest Wilford has worked his way to being 3rd on the team. He has  6 receptions for 95 yds.

Daryl Smith has gotten himself 3 tackles on the season.

Chris Thompson has a total of 2 tackles for the year.

Josh Scobee is 2/3 with his longest being 31 on the year.

We had a chance to get into second place and get a game closer to the 1st place Colts but we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot today. Leftwich who had himself a good game with throwing for 304 yards and being 24-39 passing. But he made some really bad throws and sone of those throws turned into picks. He might have thrown 2 touchdowns today and over 300 yards passing but 3 interecptions will kill your team. The worse thing about this game was it was Leftwich killing his team. He might have been sacked 3 times but two of those were on him. He held the ball to long and you hold the ball to long you are going to get sacked. He was trying to make too many plays and was facing the ball into his receivers. He was the only one making dumb mistakes. His back was running great for him and his receivers we're catching just about everything from him. Taylor had rushed for 95 yards on 10 carriers. And he had 4 receivers who had 3 catches or more on the day. His big Tight End had caught 6 passes for 47 yards. His rookie receiver had a monster game with 8 grabs for 120 yards and a touchdown. Even their other rookie Wilford had 3 catches for 64 yards. Jimmy Smith the veteran was making some plays having 5 receptions for 62 yards. Taylor even catch a touchdown pass. The defense only gave up a total of 330 yards when they had 406 yards total. They were blown in them away in the stats. I don't know what Leftwich was thinking out there he had more than enough time to throw and if he didn't he is fast enough to get out of the pocket a make a play with his legs. You might also have to put a little on the coach they did throw the ball an unnecessary amount of times. They had 42 passing plays compared to their 12 rushing plays. Not a very balanced offense today. At least the d played well enough to win them the game. As long as the offense can get their stuff figured out and the defense can play like this again. They might be a good team. The defense only gave up 330 yards total, 235 from the air and held the Titans to under 100 yards rushing. The defense was able to get to McNair 5 times on the day. Lead by Brackens who had 2 sacks on the day. Henderson and Spicer both had a sack and Stroud and Douglas both got half a sack. Darius lead the team with a total of 8 tackles he was flying all over the field today. And Bolden was able to pick off McNair to get them a turnover. Like we said before as long as they can their unbalanced offense and Leftwich can keep his turnovers to a minimum or none at all that would help. If Williams can have another game like he had today Leftwich might have a hard time throwing bad passes when he has good receivers to throw to. They will need to figure it out for their next game cause they are facing division leaders the Colts.

Team News / Week 3 vs Chargers

I don't know how they did it but they found a way to do it. Jake Plumber channeling his inner John Elway and getting his very own comeback win. The Broncos were down 28-17 in the middle of the 3rd. The stadium was silent and they thought that the Chargers were going to walk out of here win a win and beating a division rival at home. But that might of been the Chargers downside. They could of kept giving it to LT he was kicking our defense's butt all day. But they decided to throw it and with the pressure the d was giving Brees a made a mistake and gave the Broncos a chance to come back. Plumber who lead the comeback was 16-29 for 265 yards no touchdowns but he did threw a interecption. Plumber had to put the team on his shoulders. He running game wasnt giving him much and letting a rookie play his first game didn't help much either. Griffin and Bell carried the ball today and you really couldn't tell by their numbers. Griffin who had the most touches rushed for only 28 yards on 9 carries, but he was able to score a touchdown. Rookie Bell carried the ball 4 times for 29 yards. As you can see that's not going to help Plumber out much when they barely have as many yards as LT had. Put receivers stepped up and defense made some good plays towards the end. The other rookie to play had a much better game. You couldn't tell he was a rookie. Darius Watts had himself a gave to remember. He had 5 catches for 113 yards. Veteran Smith had a good game to catching 6 passes for 89 yards. We thought we might get a good battle of the Tight Ends today but unfortunately Shannon Sharpe left the game early in the 1st quarter and was out for the whole game. He looked like he was going to have a good game he already had 2 receptions for 27 yards it looked like he was going to have a big game. But sadly we didn't get to see it. Now the defense are the ones who made big plays to keep them in the game but the guy who saved the team and was the real MVP today was the one and only Champ Bailey. There was nothing he couldn't do today. Oh you need some tackles he was able to get 3 of them. You need a guy to rush and sack the quarterback he can do that to. You need a man to score a pick six yeah he did that as well. But his talents didn't just stop on defense. He took his talents to the special teams as well returning punts today. He was able to take one all the way to the house. There was nothing he couldn't do today. If it wasn't for him they might not get a win today. He wasn't the only one who had a good defensive showing. John Lynch lead the team in tackles with 6 on the day. Mobley also had a good game getting 2 tackles a sack and getting himself a pick as well. The whole defense was able to get to Brees 5 times but the pressure they put on Brees caused him to threw 3 picks. He also threw one late in the game that could of given them the lead but Ferguson picked him off that helped the Broncos drive down the field where Elam was able to kick the winning field goal. Along with getting 5 sacks and 3 interecptions. The defense gave up 460 yards total 270 through the air and 190 on the ground. The numbers look bad but when you can get turnovers sometimes the numbers are just numbers and as long as you get a win doesn't matter how you get it. Next week they will travel to Tampa and face the Bucs and keep their perfect record going.
