Team News / Week 3 at Giants

The Browns can add another loss to their record and now with a 0-3 record and they need to figure something out. They had a rough game today. Losing their rookie star to an injury and barely getting any yards on offense today. It didn't help that Garcia was sacked for 6.5 sacks on the day. The line let him down and he had to run all day just to avoid getting hit. Garcia was 9-16 for 123 yards and 1 touchdown. He surprising didn't throw a pick. Which is shocking cause he had to throw a lot of forced passes in. The running game didn't do much to give Garcia any support. Suggs had 8 attempts for 54 yards. He could barely get through the line and they didn't rush it very often. Winslow looked like he was going to have a good game. They weren't able to stop him and he looked like he was going to be able to help the Browns to their 1st win. But he got hurt early in the first quarter and that stopped all their momentum. He had 2 receptions for 16 yards and caught 1 touchdown. Morgan tried to step up but he didn't do too much. He had 4 receptions for 55 yards a ok game but not what they needed. The defense played a little better than the offense but still weren't able to get the win. They were able to get a couple of sacks and picks. Unfortunately they weren't able to turn any of those turnovers into any points. With 2 picks you would think they could get some points off of them but they were not able to. It's unfortunate that they couldn't get the win with them only giving up 315 yards. Normally that would give you a win but when your offense doesn't give you much it can't help you. 215 of those yards where from the passing game and the rest where from rushing. They will be playing the Redskins next maybe they can ink out a win against them due to them not play great either. But we will see.

Defense was the player of the game today. They were an unstoppable force they had no problem getting to the quarterback today. It was a defensive day cause the offense was giving them no support. The offense was terrible today. They only had 315 total yards today. They had 100 more yards than the Browns but that doesn't make the offense any better. Both Warner and Manning didn't even have 10 competitions. Warner was 9-13 for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Not a great game for him. Sadly it was the best game he has had all year. Manning he didn't do to much better. They were trying to give Manning some more playing time but he still is not ready to play. He was 6-8 for 87 yards not too bad of a day but not 1st overall pick type play. But the offense wasn't all bad, Barber had himself a pretty good day. He rushed for 98 yards on 17 attempts and he even caught 3 passes for 64 yards and 1 touchdown. He wasn't the only guy having a good receiving day. Shockey had 6 receptions for 108 yards. But the rest of the offense was lack luster. Back to the defense they were on point today. Strahan was a monster today. He had 3 tackles and got to the quarterback twice. But he wasn't the only guy that got to the quarterback. Joseph, Washington, Hand, and Bromell all had a sack and Green was able to get half a sack. Allen and Strahan lead the team in tackles today with 3 each. The defense only gave up 215 yards total. They were shutting down the Browns down all day. Gave up 123 yards passing and 92 yards rushing. They were shutting them down and kept them almost out of the endzone. They gave up just 10 points. They didn't score much more but they were able to hold them for the victory. The Giants will have a harder time next week. They will be traveling to face the Packers next week.

The Vikings improve to 2-1 and now have to wait and see if the Packers win their game. And they will see if they will be tied for 1st or if they will be in 2nd place. Moss went off today he was unstoppable. There was no one on the field that could hold him. He was beating everyone. And he showed why he is the best receiver in the league. He had 10 catches for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns. And he wasn't the only guy on the offensive side that was on fire. Culpepper was 21 for 33 for 373 yards and 2 touchdowns and 1 interecption. He was sacked 4 times today but the line did do a good job holding them. Some of it was on Culpepper himself holding on to the ball to long. Bennett had a decent game today. He rushed for 70 yards on 12 attempts and scored 1 touchdown. He also caught 2 passes for 6 yards. Moss and Bennett weren't the only ones holding their weight receiving. Kleinsasser had a good game for a Tight End. He had 4 receptions for 62 yards. Robinson caught 3 passes for 66 yards. For a guy who was getting overshadowed by Moss he still was able to get some yards. And it wasn't like the d was being overshadowed they had some highlights. Hovan was a beast out there today. Getting 2 sacks and hitting Grossman a lot. He might have only had the 2 sacks but he was getting through the o-line all day. They doubled him and he was still getting through. And due to him getting through the we're able to sack the quarterback 5 times. Hovan was making the way for other teammates to show up. Nattiel, Lyon, and Eiland we're able to also get a sack on Grossman. But sacks weren't the only thing that they were getting. They were able to get 3 picks. Russell had a heck of a game. He had 2 tackles and made some great picks. He was able to get the first pick in the 1st quarter and was able to stop the Bears come back by picking Grossman off late in the game to save the win for them. Claiborne was able to get himself a pick as well. Chavous and Winfield we're all over the field today. They weren't able to get a sack or interecption but they lead the team in tackles with 5 and 4. But they were able to shut down the Bears receivers. Even though the defense almost lost the game for them they were able to shut them down. They gave up only 366 yards. Culpepper had more yards than the whole Bears team. They had 248 yards passing and 118 rushing. They couldn't stop the rushing so much but the passing game was not as effective as the Bears wanted. They were able to turn their turnovers into 14 points. It was a tough game for the Vikings in the 2nd half only scoring 3 points but they will be able to hold on for the victory. They will get a nice break cause they have a bye nice week. Which will give the league nice break from Moss. Moss is on pace to get more touchdowns than he did last year. Through 3 games Moss has 27 receptions 500 yards and 5 touchdowns. He is either in 2nd or tied for 2nd in each category he is on a roll.

Lovie Smith said after the game, " Rex has had a rough couple of games and he is trying to make throws that arent there trying to force everything in. We will see how our other quarterbacks will do during practice throughout the week and I will make a decision if Rex will stay at starting QB or have a backup fill in."

Well the Bears had themselves a rough offensive day. It wasn't much better on the defensive side. Grossman had himself a very rough day. The 2nd year man is still having a hard time with the offense. Grossman was 14-26 for 248 yds 1 touchdown and 3 interecptions. He was having a hard time finding any of his teammates. He was rushing his throws and just throwing it up for anyone.  It didn't help that his o-line wasn't helping him. He was sacked 5 times. At least he was getting help from the running game. Anthony Thomas waa having a heck of a game. He had to carry the load due to Jones being out of the game due to injury. Thomas had 10 attempts for 114 yds and 1 touchdown. He even had 1 catch for 7 yards and a touchdown. Thomas had the best game of the season so far, with him and Thomas splitting the load he has had a hard time rushing. But he is trying to show he can do it himself. He did a good job of showing the team he can carry the load. Grossman's receivers didn't do much to help him out very much. Booker only had 1 catch for 13 yards, Terrell had 3 receptions for 56 yards. Luckily he had one guy that stepped up and helped out. Cage had a hell of a game. He made a case for being the number one guy. He had 7 receptions for 135 yards. Mike Brown stepped up as one of the defensive leaders he had a great game. He lead the team in tackles with 7 today. Azumah and Tillman helped out with 5 and 4 tackles each. Tillman who got hurt during the game continued to play with an injury and was still playing well. Rookie Tommie Harris had a pretty good game as well. He had 3 tackles and 1 sack. He wasn't the only one to get to the quarterback today. Brown, Robinson, and Harriott we're able to sack Culpepper today. Even though they were able to sack Culpepper 4 times and get an interecption, but they gave up 449 yards. Most of that came from the passing game. The Bears gave up 373 yards passing. They had no way of stopping Moss today. He did whatever he wanted and got away with it today. They were able to slow their run game, they only gave up 76 yards through the ground. Even though they had a bad defensive game, they almost came back to win it. They were held scoreless in the 1st half. But they came back from the half on fire. They scored 17 unanswered points and almost came back to win the game. It was real close but Grossman threw a very costly pick that sealed the game for them. It was a close game they could of won. Next game they have will be a tough game. They will playing against the high scoring Eagles.

Thomas Jones left early in the 2nd quarter with a sprained elbow. He will be questionable for the next two weeks. If they lose him that would be a heavy loss.

Charles Tillman has shoulder tendinitis, he missed only a few plays and played the rest of the game. He will be probable for the next 6 weeks. Hoping he doesn't miss too much time or any at all.
